The club has an active competition casting programme which all members can participate in. There are participation awards, encouragement awards and prizes for place getters, as well as the winners.

The competitions are lots of fun and can really improve your fly casting skills. Don’t feel inhibited if you aren’t an expert; plenty of the others aren’t either and the atmosphere is informal. If you indicate that you would like advice and tuition, the more experienced casters are happy to help.

The club participates in the Brunn Shield interclub casting competition.

The Brunn Shield casting tournament is held over the winter months and was devised by Mr.Theo Brunn, a renowned angler and flycaster, who was instrumental in pioneering competition fly casting in Victoria during the 1930’s. Mr. Brunn felt there was a need for fly fisherman to practice their fly casting skills during the winter months over the closed fishing season.
